Self care for R U OKAY DAY

For this R U OKAY Day, as well as learning the power of conversation with others, we want to deliver you with the best tips our staff have adapted into their lifestyles for some self care.

One question can make all the difference.

With R U OKAY Day (8 September 2022) just around the corner, there’s no better time to ask our family members, friends, colleagues – or even a stranger – if they’re okay. It’s also a great opportunity to check in on ourselves, listen to our bodies and give ourselves a break.

It’s been two difficult years and with 2022 giving us a taste of normality again, life has quickly come back to be full-speed ahead for most of us, leaving us without those quiet moments to turn up for ourselves. So, in saying that, for this R U OKAY Day, as well as learning the power of conversation with others, we want to deliver you with the best tips our staff have adapted into their lifestyles for some selfcare.

    1. Journaling

Sometimes it’s easier to write our thoughts out on paper than to speak them out loud, and that’s okay, it’s a great way to reflect on our progress each day and to recognize what we’re thankful for each day.

    2. Exercise

Although rigorous exercise may not be for everyone, a 30 minute walk each day can be enough to distract your mind and build up those much-needed endorphins to make each and every day better. It’s important to move our bodies each day not just for our mental health but for our physical health too. If this isn’t something you practice yet, try adapting a 20 minute power workout or a 30 minute walk each day.

    3. Healthy Eating & Cooking

A balanced diet and exercise regime can be key to a balanced lifestyle, food can well and truly improve your mood, particularly when it makes your insides smile too.

Cooking can be just as therapeutic to quieten your mind after a long day or week. Remember to cook the foods you love, and include plenty of fruits and vegetables so you can eat the rainbow and get a great balance of key nutrients.

      4. Staying Social

When the going gets tough, it can be increasingly difficult to build up the courage to leave your bedroom and chat to friends and family. But we more often than not get our energy and inspiration from the likes of others, so remember the importance of socializing.

      5.  Mindful Arts & Crafts

Keeping our minds active is just as important as keeping our bodies moving. So, pick up a paintbrush or colour in the lines of a beautifully outlined mandala and allow yourself to get lost in the colours and to feel inspired by your creations. Puzzles and lego-building are also great activities to bring out your creative side.

      6. Reading

A great book is the perfect daily distraction and often a great source of inspiration. Whether you like auto-biographies, romantic novels or fiction tales, reading allows us to escape into the world of others.

This R U OKAY Day, we hope you find the time for yourselves as well as your loved ones. A phone call, e-mail, visit or unexpected gift can make someone’s day, and a simple conversation can save a life.
